Have you ever been in a place with growing your coaching business when you felt like calling it quits?

I’ve so been there. (more times than I’d like to admit)

About 3 months after I launched my full-time coaching business I felt so discouraged, confused and overwhelmed. Even though I was doing a lot of things in my business, I wasn’t signing up many new clients and I started to worry because I was burning through my savings.

I remember calling up my friend Cande, a successful business owner, so that we could meet at our favorite San Francisco coffee shop, the Grove in the Marina.

I told her how frustrated I felt and that I was seriously thinking about updating my resume and starting to look for job.

Talking to her helped so much! She listened, was really supportive and shared the ups and downs of her journey as a business owner. By the end of the conversation I was feeling a lot better.

Then, just as we were getting ready to leave and say goodbye, the Peter Gabriel song, “Don’t Give Up” started playing.

It felt like a sign from God. And as that song played, Cande put her hand on my shoulder, looked me straight in the eye and said “Michelle, don’t give up.”

That was a pivotal day for me. I didn’t give up and things started turning around.

A few weeks later I got my first corporate gig and I enrolled in a business-building program so that I could get the training and support I needed.

I’m not sure how you’re doing with your business right now, but if you’re struggling or feeling frustrated, please don’t give up.

Reach out to a successful business owner who you know and invite the person to coffee or lunch. Ask what it was like when they were first starting out and how they overcame their challenges.
