One of the cardinal rules of coaching that I learned in my coach training program is that “The client does the work.”
But what if you, as a coach, want to do some of the work for your clients? Is it okay for you to offer “Done-For-You” services?
I’m seeing more and more coaches including “Done-For-You” services in their coaching packages – often as part of the coach’s premium coaching package.
Here are some examples:
=> A career coach includes a Resume Re-Write
=> A small business coach provides a step-by-step Marketing Plan
=> A leadership coach offers the development of a Succession Plan
=> A health coach develops Customized Meal Plans with recipes and shopping lists
=> A corporate coach includes the creation of an Employee Handbook
=> A relationship coach creates an Online Dating Profile for her clients
Can you see how clients really appreciate these types of “Done-For-You” services?

“C&GR’s ‘heart-felt, business’ philosophy has added dramatic sizzle to my coaching practice. I have had a 400% increase in revenue. What I used to earn in one month I now earn in one week. I presented a workshop to 77 people and had 1/3 of the audience desire a comp session. 50% of those people became my clients in 10 crazy amazing days. Wouldn’t you like 8 new clients in 10 working days? I have also developed 6 Strategic Alliances which provide me a steady stream of clients and also a beautiful new granite kitchen island. I love C&GR and I love my coaching life!”
“Before getting the Coach & Grow R.I.C.H. system I was not even coaching anyone but after I met Michelle at workshop in San Diego I decided to buy it and try it out. The program has a lot of great material that helped me wrap my head around what I was doing and get clearer on my goals. I’m really looking forward to going through the course again and use the material more since I’m really trying to launch my business this year. Michelle’s program helped me to take the first big step – starting my coaching business! I already developed my first website and had the confidence to do it. Now I’m working on starting a group. After going through the program I gained confidence that I can actually do this simply by seeing that so many other people at different levels are currently doing it as well. In the past I was getting stuck at times because I always want to do everything perfectly but now I know that it was holding me back! This is definitely my year!”
Results makes coach and client excited for even more results Therefore dyu is a great asset.

I think when you do these services, your in the co-coaching field. Which is perfectly okay, you just have to define that upfront with your clients. There is a value to the client after they discover for themselves, what they want to do, be or have, then the specific’s can be co-created. In my business model, I may have services provided that use my marketing skills and strategy skills that would fit better with co-coaching.
Great feedback Angela. I like those phrases, co-coaching and co-creating!
While I think there is value in providing clients with the type of additional support you mention here, I also believe quite strongly that these premium services take the coach over the line to Consulting, and that it is important to make the distinction when communicating with the client.
Thanks for your comment Gillian. Yes, having clear communication is key!
